What is a VPN?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. Your device be it a laptop or a phone uses a VPN to connect to a network other than your home, office, your local coffee shop, hotel, or airport. When connected to a VPN, all the data your device would normally send across the real network is transmitted over the virtual network.

This is done through whats called an encrypted tunnel or secure tunnel which secures the data you’re transmitting so that no one else on the real network is capable of reading that data.

How do I use Skylaski VPN?

Skylaski uses WireGuard to provide the fastest, most secure connection to the Internet possible. If you’re familiar with WireGuard then setup is pretty straight forward. If you’re using one of our apps this is automatically done for you. Otherwise, see our Getting Started guide for more information.

What is WireGuard?

WireGuard is a VPN protocol and Skylaski VPN’s protocol of choice for providing you a secure connection to the internet. WireGuard is the latest and greatest in this space and has proven to be one of the fastest and most secure VPN protocols to date. For more detailed information, see the project’s whitepaper. We have more information on why we chose WireGuard as well.

How do you block trackers?

Skylaski VPN leverages DNS filtering to prevent your device from connecting to a number of well known bad actors on the internet. When your device attempts to connect to one of these domain names, our DNS servers return 0.0.0.0 which effectively stops your device from continuing to send data to that domain. We use notracking as our list and sync with it daily, keeping you as secure and private as possible.

Do you collect logs?

Skylaski VPN’s WireGuard Gateways do not log anything at all. Neither do our Private DNS Servers. We don’t maintain session data, times, amount of data transferred, or anything else that might identify you to anyone who might be logged on to our servers, ourselves included. On top of that, we actively destroy and recreate WireGuard peers that haven’t sent a KeepAlive packet in over 3 minutes in order to ensure your data is protected.

In order to maintain quality of service however, we do collect high level statistics on a server’s performance. On our main website and Community pages, we store enough information to provide a high quality experience which includes tools for managing your devices, and a community you can leverage for support. You can find out all you need to know about this and more in our Privacy Policy.

Do you allow BitTorrent?

A lot of VPN providers do protocol and rate-limiting. Not Skylaski VPN. You can use whatever you want as long as you obey the laws your person is subject to.

Yes, we allow BitTorrent. See our Terms of Service for more information.

What platforms do you support?

Skylaski VPN leverages WireGuard to provide VPN services. WireGuard is currently supported on all major platforms including Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, and Linux. WireGuard is even supported in some custom builds of consumer routers and other, more esoteric operating systems like FreeBSD. See WireGuard’s Installation page for more details.
